Corrections

In short: Material errors on this site are corrected on the page with a dated note, and logged here. Typos and wording fixes are not logged. To report an error, use the contact page.

A site that publishes tax figures under a real name has to be willing to say when it got one wrong. This page is the running record. It covers every material correction since the site’s editorial process was formalised in August 2026; anything before that is covered by the full re-verification of every page carried out on 25 and 26 August 2026.

What counts as material

A wrong figure, date, threshold, rate, rule or attribution, or a claim that could not be traced to a source and was removed. Those get an entry below and a dated note on the page itself. Spelling, grammar, layout and clearer phrasing are fixed silently.

How to report an error

Use the contact page and say which page and which sentence. If it is confirmed, the page is corrected and an entry is added here, normally within five working days. You do not need to be right to report something; you only need to think it is worth checking.

Correction log

  • 26 August 2026: ICO registration for the self-employed: the summary box gave the ICO tier-1 data protection fee as £40. The correct figure, as sourced in the article itself, is £52. Box, chart and check-date corrected.
  • 26 August 2026: Self-employed mileage allowance: the article conflated HMRC’s employee mileage rates (AMAP) with the simplified-expenses flat rate for the self-employed. They are separate schemes; both moved from 45p to 55p for the first 10,000 miles from 6 April 2026. Rewritten to distinguish them.
  • 26 August 2026: Sole trader business name rules: the chart listed three naming restrictions. The rule on names suggesting a connection to government, from the Companies Act 2006 s.1193, was missing. Chart redrawn with four.
  • 26 August 2026: Switching business bank accounts: a chart stated a three-year redirect period that no cited source supports. The claim was removed.

26 August 2026 (What Is Xero and How Does It Work?: the plan comparison chart showed payroll as a number of people included with each plan), one on Grow, five on Comprehensive, ten on Ultimate. Xero’s own plan pages state that payroll is charged per person: £1.50 a month each on Ignite, Grow and Comprehensive, and £1 on Ultimate. The chart was redrawn, and re-dated to 26 August.

Where an entry links to an article, the article carries its own dated note at the point of the change.
